This statue of V.I. Lenin, a Russian revolutionary and leader of the Bolshevik movement, looms over the Fremont neighborhood in Seattle, Washington. It is the work of Slovakian artist Emil Venkov. The statue was purchased in Slovakia in 1993 by Lewis E. Carpenter, a Seattle area man who was teaching English in the city of Poprad at the time. Carpenter died in a car accident in 1994 amidst public controversy over his import of the piece. The sculpture is presently located at Evanston Ave N, N 36th St, and Fremont Place in Fremont where it awaits a buyer. The Carpenter family is currently asking $250,000 for this piece of Cold War art.
