THE AWAKENING: A dedication to the Lord Sakyamuni Buddha
This video is a dedication to the Lord Sakyamuni Buddha. I made this special segment for the Makha Puja Day, a very important ceremony for all Buddhists around the world. Makha Puja Day takes place on the full moon day of the third lunar month. This holy day is observed to commemorate two important events in the life of the Lord Buddha. After the first Rain Retreat at Deer Park, Lord Buddha went to Rahagaha city. There were 1250 Arahantas (Enlightened followers) returned from their mission ...

Shakyamuni Buddha
Yesterday was the first sunny day here in months. I was able to get out and take a walk around our local Tibetan Lamasery,
Land of the Medicine Buddha in Soquel .
This is the
Shakyamuni Buddha, or the historical Buddha. Muni means sage, and shakya refers to the clan of his origin, Shakymuni Buddha is the ‘Sage from the Shakya clan”.
Buddha Shakyamuni
Buddha Shakyamuni (Shaka Nyoria) is seated in the middle, with Jizo on the left and Kannon on the right at the Daio Hoden ("Hall of the Treasured Daio"; "Daio" is another name for Shakyamuni).
This main hall of Kofukuji Zen Temple in Nagasaki Japan is built in a Chinese style, with wood carved and prepared in China for export to Japan when the temple was built in 1620. You can see the bottom of the large glass lantern (Ruri-to), which was imported from Shanghai and assembled inside the hall.

Shakyamuni Buddha or "The Awakened One of the Shakya"
After the polemic which appeared under my last image on Flickr (
www.flickr.com/photos/designldg/2342196105 ) controverting religious, philosophical and political matters concerning FREE TIBET, I hope that this one will bring peace and wisdom to those who refuted the fact there was an annexation of Tibet by the People's Republic of China in 1959...
This Shakyamuni Buddha is the central statue on the Altar of the Tibetan temple in Sarnath where I like to come often.
This place near Varanasi (Benaras) is full of peace, this is where the Buddha thus journeyed to Deer Park...

I helped my son's Buddhist temple move its shrine on Saturday and took some photos of the process for the community to keep. The gompa (sanctuary) is on the second floor of a former church and has a wall of beautiful stained glass windows. The former resident teacher designed the wood furniture that the statues sit upon so that if they were moved in front of the windows the Buddha Shakyamuni statue would be centered in front of the main window.

Buddha Shakyamuni
Ele é, de fato, o bem-aventurado, o cumpridor,
O completa e plenamente desperto,
Dotado de sabedoria e virtuosa conduta,
Que seguiu pelo bom caminho,
Conhecedor dos mundos,
Treinador incomparável dos homens a serem treinados,
Mestre dos deuses e homens,
Desperto, bem-aventurado...
Aos Buddhas do passado,
Aos Buddhas do futuro e
Aos Buddhas do presente,
Homenagem eu presto sempre.

Shakyamuni's Robes
This is a piece of cloth from the robes of the Shakyamuni Buddha statue inside the Jokhang, Tibet's most holy temple. About every week they change the robes. When our group went inside the temple we were each given a piece of a robe that was once worn by the Shakyamuni Buddha statue. With the cloth we were also given a handful of barley seeds which the monks use to chant with.
Without being there and understanding how important the Jokhang and that Shakyamuni Buddha statue are to Tibetans and Buddhism, it's hard to realize how big of a deal it was for us to be getting a piece of cloth from those robes, but it's a very big deal and not...
